COURSE:  BIB 201: Wisdom Literature

COURSE DESCRIPTION

BIB 201 examines and interprets the Old Testament Wisdom books of Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs. The course will explore the content, message, historical/cultural context/background, critical issues, and key texts along with each book’s theology and literary features.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:

  1. Understand and interpret the Old Testament literature as found in the books of Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs.

  2. Comprehend the historical and cultural issues of Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs

  3. Comprehend how wisdom is portrayed and functioned in the Wisdom Literatures

  4. Comprehend the biblical, theological, and practical aspects of wisdom

REQUIRED TEXTS

  1. Bible (Suggests NIV or NASB and preferably a “Study Bible”)
